Who Can JoinMembership in the José Martí Past Students’ Organization is more than an affiliation — it is a bond of pride, legacy, and shared experience. All persons who wish to join our family must be qualified under one of the following categories:
- Must be a:
- Former graduate of the institution.
- Student who attended the institution for at least four months and left before graduating.
- Person who was a member of the teaching staff of the institution at some time in the past.
- Person who was a past or present member of staff of the institution.
- Member of any organization that sort to assist the institution during its years of existence (such as “los amigos de Jose Marti”)
- Birth relative by birth or marriage of any person in sub-section A or B of this Article.
- Other conditions:
- All persons who are not eligible under subsection (a) or (b) will be associate members or non-members.
- Associate members are also welcome to meetings of the organization, except that he/she cannot hold or participate in the election process for any office in the OOG or be appointed to the BOD.
- Non-members are alumni of the Jose Marti institution, but who have not requested or applied for membership in the organization and will be entitled to all rights and privileges within the organization except that he/she cannot hold or participate in the election process for the offices within the OOG or appointment to the BOD.
Membership Requirements
- As proud members of the José Martí Past Students’ Organization, we each contribute to the strength and sustainability of our family. Membership dues are a vital part of ensuring that our programs, events, and initiatives continue to thrive. All persons who are qualified to join must fulfill the required dues as outlined below. These contributions not only secure your membership but also help preserve our legacy, support current students, and strengthen the bonds within our alumni community.
- All persons must file the appropriate application form established by the BOD, or OOG, along with a one-time initiation fee of $20.00.
- The membership dues shall be $10.00 per month. The failure by any member to pay his/her dues for a total of three consecutive or collective months in any one calendar year shall cause any such member to lose his/her membership.
- The loss of his/ her membership status will make any such member ineligible for holding any office or participating in any proceedings, or any other matters undertaking by the organization, except for events.
- To redeem his/her membership, he/she must submit in full all back dues owed to the Treasurer along with an additional $20.00 initiation fee again. This must be executed at least twenty days before any major event for such a person to be allowed to participate in the capacity as a member in that event.
- All monies paid to the organization for any reason shall be submitted by check, Zelle, money order or by other electronic means and addressed to the Treasurer, or any other Financial Officer, such as the Financial Liaison Officer (FLO)or The Financial Controller for the Board of Directors. Cash payment will receive a receipt by electronic e-mail receipt confirmation.
